Always do right.  This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.“   —   Mark Twain

(Got that, Dudley?!?  As Spike Lee would say:  Do The Right ThingOf course in that movie almost everyone ended up doing the wrong thing, including our hero.  But, that’s besides the point.  Listen to yer uncle.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.“   —   Mark Twain

(Just what I need!  A cutesy, folksy reason to perpetuate my procrastination!  Thanks, Clemens!  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.“   —   Mark Twain

(Leave it to me, to get that completely backwards!  Boy!  Doesn’t this ever seem to be the case, though?!  There are just so many successful people out there who come off as such . . . narrowly focused buffoons.  Sort of the net effect of this specialized, corporate culture we’re living in.  Broader intelligence just doesn’t carry the weight that it used to.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Laughing BuddhaThe human race has only one really effective weapon, and that is laughter.”   —   Mark Twain

(Don’t you wish that our so-called world leaders understood this?  You can do so much more – as in deflecting anger – with humor than with force.  Laughter releases endorphins, and endorphins make us feel good.  See if you can make someone laugh today.  Heck, try to do it everyday!  More ha ha = less hatred.  Peace, my brothers and sisters.)   —   YUR

A man never reaches that dizzy height of wisdom that he can no longer be led by the nose.“   —   Mark Twain

Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.“   —   Mark Twain

(Not the usual humorous observation, of the human condition, that most of us have come to expect from The Man from Hannibal, MO.  It’s actually very deep and thought provoking.  Each of us has it within ourselves to forgive.  But after that, the question becomes: Does the heel even appreciate it???)   —   YUR

It takes me a long time to lose my temper, but once lost I could not find it with a dog.“   —   Mark Twain

(Very folksy!  And, very unlike me.  I’ve been known to lose my temper at the drop of a hat, though rarely in public, but I generally snap out of it very quickly.  Congratulations to Caroline (Kennedy) and Edwin Schlossberg on making it to their 25th wedding anniversary, today!  Especially nowadays, and especially for *celebrities*, that is quite an accomplishment.  Be well and do good, friends.)   —   YUR

Put all your eggs in one basket – and watch that basket.“   — Mark Twain

(I think we gotta give “Mark Twain” a break.  Maybe mix in his given name, Samuel Clemens, or something.  Because whenever I see the author , first name – 4 letters, last name – 5 letters it’s pretty much a giveaway!  I try NOT to look at the author, but sometimes I slip.  He’s very likely the most quotable American of all time, so let’s mix it up guys!)   — YUR

A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.“   — Mark Twain

(Currently having both a broken leg and a severely sprained ankle I can appreciate this sentiment.  I now have an even greater empathy for what amputees go through.  At least my condition will, eventually, remedy itself.  Though, not soon enough, to my liking.  I’ve always had a lot of patience . . . with others.  Much less so for myself.)   — YUR

PS.  Again, this is not me.  Mine is my left leg.  I started out in this air/cold-brace, then the doctor – who discovered I also had a broken leg – switched me to a “boot”, then he put me in a cast.  If the ligament situation does not improve I’ll have to surgical screws put in.  Do your stuff, cast!
