Visual Description: Gumshoe Gets Graveyard Ghoul Graffitist!
ISOTH = HOIST, EDDAD = ADDED, SNGRIT = STRING, DOBRIF = FORBID — Giving us: HOTADESTGRID
Clue/Question: When the zombie was nabbed committing a crime, he was caught . . .
Answer: DEAD TO RIGHTS
(This one was a lot of fun! Nice mug shot, huh?!?! All around good jumbling of the clue words. It looks like some were having trouble coming up with “hoist”. The surprising new addition to the ralis95 clue word database is “string”. The answer letter layout was nice and cryptic. A nice, long, 12 letter answer. And, we had another, ever-popular, zombie cartoon to illustrate a well known idiom. Nice going, men! Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

I got it, but don’t GET it.
Actually, I DO get it, but don’t think it TRULY makes sense, do you, Unc?
Hey Unc,
If the cop was a cannibal zombie, the graffiti artist could have been “hard to digest” !
“Caught dead to rights” generally means the same as *caught red-handed*, or *caught in the act*. So, considering that zombies are just the animated dead, the pun makes perfect sense, Marc.
I like your “hard to digest” take, but I think it would be better if the cop were the zombie and the graffiti artist was either a stinky, wino bum, OR some kind of muscle-bound freak.

Someone did write us and suggested that the pun could/should have been “DEAD TO “WRITES”, which is a step further. We did have a discussion with our editor as to whether players would get it or not. We decided to roll the dice.
Thanks for explaining the punch line, Unc.

I think the steroids would be hardest to get down, don’t you?
I got it but didn’t think I did because it doesn’t make any sense
Oh..never heard the dead to rights saying before
@ Jeff,
Yeah. I think “DEAD TO “WRITES” would have been even tougher for those out there who aren’t familiar with the idiom. I considered it *well known* well . . . because I know it. Maybe in today’s fast food, 800 channel, “I” and “E” everything, cookie-cutter world we’re losing the best of the English language. Certainly, a lot of it is being replaced by popular jargon.
@ Marc,
Probably the steroidal sinewy muscles would be tougher to CHEW! I guess if you’re a zombie smell isn’t such a big concern to you.
@ LL-T,
Don’t tell the kids that Unclerave’s Wordy Weblog is educational. They’ll run for their lives, as if they’re seeing ZOMBIES! We’re a predominantly FUN site!
