Answer: BLOCKED IT OUT
(I thought this was a great Jumble! Kind of a shame to waste it on a Saturday. Especially for me! Not as many people seem to tune in on the weekends. Everybody’s got other/better things to do than surf the web for answers to newspaper word games. Even yours truly! No matter. All the clue word jumbling was top shelf! Believe it or not, “stood” is a new addition to the ralis95 clue word database. It’s not new, but I’m betting that the word that may have tripped up the most people is “benign”. The answer letter layout was a thing of beauty. Nothing obvious there. Good job, Mr. Hoyt! You’d have to know – at least - the basics of American Football to get today’s answer. The offensive linemen – the Center, flanked by two Guards, flanked by two Tackles – are familiarly known as BLOCKERS, because one of their main jobs is to stop the the opposing defense from getting across the line of scrimmage, and getting to the quarterback . . . or whoever might have the ball. A lot of American readers are just saying “Duh!” to all of this, but a lot of our visitors are from countries that do not play American Football. Nice cartoon, Mr. Knurek. Be well and do good, friends.) — YUR

Phew! Today certainly was a challenge! I cheated on BENIGN up to letter N. Then I saw the IGN clearly in my head. The the solution I had to cheat on, also. I guess I had no patience today. GREAT PUZZLE! Mentally stimulating!
Atta girl, Lesley!
